SWR Spectre II Suppressor

Choosing a suppressor can be a very daunting task. It seems there is a new suppressor manufacturer popping up every other week, and the manufacturers that have been doing it for years continually come to the table with new products. The vast multitude of choices, combined with the relatively limited number of people that own suppressors, makes it difficult to know the capabilities of what you are buying. Most people buy their suppressors without ever having used them or heard them before. Each new suppressor is a new experience, and the mistakes can be very costly. This marks the first suppressor review that we will be doing here at Primal Rights, with the express goal of helping eliminate those mistakes. We will try to give you as much information as possible to help you decide which suppressor…

Long range precision shooting has exploded in popularity over the last ten years. Tactical rifle competitions, precision shooting schools, and new long range clubs are popping up all over the country at record pace. With 3-gun competition being the fastest growing sport in the country, precision rifle shooting is likely the 2nd fastest growing. It's tough to tell, because no one really tracks such things, but suffice it to say there are more new long range shooters than ever before. Every one of these new shooters is faced with the same set of problems, which invariably leads to some of the same questions. One of those questions is: What optic should I buy for my rifle? Today we are going to answer that question for some of you, by introducing you to

 Desert Tactical Munitions Ammo Testing

When it comes to choosing match grade reliably-accurate ammo, that is also affordable, the field is pretty narrow. Some common names are Black Hills Ammo, Federal Gold Medal Match, and CorBon. If I were to pick the most commonly found factory match-grade ammo, those three would be at the top of the list. They are a staple of non-handloaders and are bought by the case due to their proven ability to work right and deliver the goods. Obviously there are other match grade offerings out there as well, but none with the following that those three brands enjoy. One may be better than the other, depending entirely on which rifle likes it best. Recently, another player threw their hat in the ring. We're going to see how well they stack up against the competition.

A bullpup bolt-action, magazine-fed, switch-barrel, multi-caliber weapon capable of quarter-MOA accuracy. What's not to like? This rifle has graced the silver screen, and has been on a number of TV shows such as Mythbusters and the Military Channel's "Ultimate Weapons." It has also been on the cover of virtually every tactical magazine on planet earth, so you've probably seen it somewhere by now. If you haven't, then this article will be a great introduction. If you have, then this article will let you get to know the weapon system a little bit better before dropping the kind of cash required to own one of these unique rifles.

The Desert Tactical Arms Stealth Recon Scout. Someone definitely made a stop at the Badass Name Store when picking out the name of the company and the rifle.…

 Ares Gear - Ranger Belt

The best belt on planet earth? I happen to think so! I could have left you in suspense like a good author is suppose to, but this is one product that deserves a no-BS introduction. I only just recently heard about these belts, and they've been out since 2007. Such a shame, as I've spent 10 times the money on a stream of inferior belts since that time. Without further ado, let me introduce you to what I believe to be the worlds finest belt for daily concealed carry wear, as well as heavy-duty tactical use.

The Ares Gear Ranger Belt is constructed of two layers of 1.5" nylon scuba webbing, with a 1" layer of nylon webbing all stitched together to form a very rigid belt. I'm not sure of the actual weight rating…

 U.S. Optics - SN3 3.2-17x44 TPAL

Unless you've had your head under a rock for the last 30 years, you have probably heard of U.S. Optics. They built some of the first truly military-grade rifle scopes on the market. Back in the days when all you could top a good long range rifle with was a variable power with few options, U.S. Optics was a breath of fresh air. Their current models are a far cry from their first units in 1992, but the company itself still maintains the spirit that made them great. Today we'll take a look at the 3.2-17x44 TPAL and its various features. This is without a doubt the most popular model in USO's lineup. The expectations are high for an optic of this price. Lets see if it can live up to it's outstanding reputation!

 Vectronix - Terrapin
By orkan  //  Posted on Fri Feb 10, 2012 6:47 pm

When trying to engage a target at long range, the single most important factor to determine is your distance to target. It is this variable that all the others in your firing solution are dependent on. Without an exact range, you cannot know your proper elevation adjustment or windage adjustment. Without either of these, your chances of hitting your target are slim to none. If you are shooting at the edge of your cartridges performance envelope, being off on range by as little as 10yds can result in a miss. Today we'll take a look at the Vectronix Terrapin and discuss its functionality and capabilities in detail.

I've went through 3-4 different models of laser range finders (LRF's) over the last few years and have not been completely satisfied with any of them. My goal…

 BDS Suspension 6" Kit

So you might be thinking "Hey Greg, what the hell... this is a site about hunting and guns... why are you posting about your truck?!?!?!" Simple... I use my truck when hunting! I've been modifying this truck since I bought it, to make it better equipped to handle the demands I put on it when hunting. I've done horsepower mods, upgraded the wheels and put some aggressive tires on it... but until recently hadn't given a lot of thought to a good suspension. My factory shocks were wearing out, so I set out to get a good suspension setup for this truck. I'll take you through what I chose in this quick review.

Initially I was going to just replace the factory shocks with a quality aftermarket shock. Then it dawned on me that…

 MGM Targets - Recon
By orkan  //  Posted on Mon Dec 05, 2011 7:07 pm

This latest target from MGM Targets is simply the most groundbreaking and unique target system to ever hit the market. Bold statement, but if you watch the video you'll likely be thinking the same thing. The Recon target is a pneumatically driven auto-resetting target. It uses 3000psi of compressed air to push the AR500 target plate back up into position after each hit. No gears to strip, no shear-pins to break, and no batteries to charge. This target is far advanced beyond what Larue and other competitors, and offers an unprecedented value to the end user.

It's a relatively long video review, but I promise by the end of it you'll have seen exactly how this Recon target works. The video contains AR500 steel, corn fields, an M60 machine gun, and naked women. //  Read Full Review

 B&T Industries - Atlas Bipod
By orkan  //  Posted on Tue Oct 04, 2011 6:22 pm

Choosing a bipod for your rifle is one of the most under-estimated factors of rifle kit building. When setting up to fire a rifle, there is no consideration more important than your shooting position. Obviously the fundamentals of shooting still apply, but having a bipod that gives you that rock-solid position would be worth its weight in gold, would it not? There are dozens of different manufacturers and even more different styles. It can be quite confusing, and even more so if you are just starting out. Today I'm going to familiarize you with one of them: The Atlas bipod from B&T Industries.

Seen below in its 90 degree deployed position, the Atlas bipod is supporting a DTA SRS with a 338 suppressor. The forward weight is rather substantial due to the 36…

This review is going to be heavy on facts, light on opinion, and absolutely filled with pictures. So buckle up, lock and load, grab your favorite beverage and settle in for a detailed look at this new gem from FN USA! I spend most of my time shooting rifles. However, skill with a handgun is a very required item if you plan to compete in some matches, not to mention if you carry concealed. The topic of today's review doesn't have anything to do with concealed carry though. Well, unless you walk around at 6'8" and 265lbs. The FNP 45 Tactical is not designed with concealed carry in mind, but rather as a tactical suppressor host. Today we will take a look at this handgun and try to cover all of its extensive features. After…

DTA SRS - Return to Zero Testing
By orkan  //  Posted on Tue Jun 07, 2011 3:10 pm

I'm sure many of you have seen the Desert Tactical Arms SRS by now. It's graced the cover of just about every tactical rifle magazine out there at some point in the last couple years, and was even shown off on a recent Mythbusters episode. Just about every rifle forum out there has also seen countless posts by people drooling over it. It is a bullpup bolt action rifle that allows fast and accurate cartridge conversions. I own a 338LM and 308 conversion, and have fired a combined round count somewhere around 800rnds with them. I'll spend more time talking about the benefits of a setup like this in a later review segment, but today we are going to focus on trying to see if the marketing hype actually holds true in regard to this rifles return to…

 MGM Targets - Flash Target

As some of you might have noticed, I'm a very particular person when it comes to my preference in gear. When I decide to use something, it is because it works, and works all the time, every time. I have made the decision to use MGM Targets products for my personal training and competition layouts, and as a result I will be buying a large amount of their products in the coming months. This is a direct result of my experiences with their Auto-Reset IPSC target that I reviewed a few weeks ago. Their targets have proven rugged reliability and a sound investment, so I'll be laying out the cash to get the targets I need. This is especially good for you guys, because I'll be doing a full review…

 MGM IPSC Auto Reset Target

*BANG!* Shooter 1: "Did you see where that one went?" Spotter: "No. I think I heard something, but I'm not sure." This is a conversation that plays itself out frequently when shooting in poor conditions. Some days, it can be all but impossible to get a spot on bullet impacts or bullet trace. When shooting steel at close ranges, you can usually see the paint get chipped off, but this only works for the first few rounds. In these situations the guys behind the rifle are begging for some kind of a reactive target that will visually indicate a hit, beyond reason of a doubt. Today we are going to get up close and personal with just such a target. The MGM IPSC Auto Reset Target. Lets get…

 TAB Gear - Rear Bag

In today's world it can seem that there is a new gadget being spawned nearly every day. They will range from a few dollars to thousands and price tag doesn't really determine its usefulness. It is often some of the simplest and least expensive pieces of gear that will make or break a long range shot. The TAB Gear Rear Bag falls into this category. Today we are going to take a detailed look at what makes this rear bag from TAB "must-have" gear!

While making precise long range shots, one of the most important things to achieve is NPA, or Natural Point of Aim. This is essentially a situation in which you have pointed the rifle as such so the reticle is on target with no interaction from the shooter. You should be…

Bullet Seating Dies - Redding vs. Forster
By orkan  //  Posted on Tue Oct 19, 2010 1:33 pm

One of the most frequent questions I get when the conversation turns to reloading is what bullet seating die I use. I've tried a bunch over the years. The way you seat the bullet in the case is one of the most important parts of your reloading operation. If the bullet does not get seated directly in line and centered in the case neck, it can lead to poor accuracy and inconsistent results on the target. Today we will be looking at the top of the line competition seating dies from two of the major reloading equipment manufacturers - Forster and Redding. Both companies have a long standing reputation for producing quality reloading equipment, but today it is all about bullet seating. So lets dive right in and see which company has it all figured out!

 AD Recon QD Scope Mount
By orkan  //  Posted on Wed Aug 25, 2010 1:21 am

About 3 years ago I went on the search for a QD mount for use on some AR's. After looking around, everyone pointed me to the larue tactical stuff. I bought 2 of them, and intended to use them on a AR I had setup with a red dot, and magnified optic. Everyone told me how they were the best thing since sliced bread and how amazing they were. How can you go wrong right?

Well after struggling with these mounts for 2 years I took them off and threw them in a drawer. I tried a total of 6 different scopes in both of the mounts, and never once was able to gain a repeatable zero. I'd zero the rifle, and after a week or two of riding around in my truck, the…

 Horus Talon 1-4x24 mil/mil/FFP w/H50 Reticle

Today we are going to take a look at the Horus Talon 1-4x24 mil/mil/FFP w/H50 Reticle. This optic is designed to be a light weight optic with a small footprint that will deliver accurate rounds on target at short to long range without the need to turn a single turret. Seems like a tall order to fill! Lets see if Horus was able to pull it off!

There were surprisingly few models out there with the feature set of the Horus Talon. I didn't even restrict my search to FFP, and considered the SFP options. However, it seems most people don't want anything with hold-overs in their low power optics. The primary role for all my stuff is hunting and competition, so hold overs are pretty important to me. Surprisingly few options out there,…
