I have a guy in Modesto that has an AR lower that I want to purcahse but dont know anything about him. He wants me to send a MO and FFL to ship it to but I would much rather do COD to my FFL. I sent him a message a couple days ago and still no word.

If anyone is near Modesto would you mind picking it up in person and shipping to my FFL. I much rather send the money to someone from this board than a total stranger and hope I get my lower.

No offense to the guy, who may be a straight shooter but so far I cant get a phone number to even talk to him. I dont think he checks his email vary often.

never ever send a money order to someone you dont know. when i was 17 i bought a paintball gun on ebay from someone in cali and he was like, hey, im leaving on vacation tomorrow, but if you want me to ship the gun today just send me a MO and email me the confimation and i'll ship it today. so my dumbass with my limited knowledge of how assholes run scams, was like. ok. this dude sounds legit. so i sent him a MO for like $300 and never heard from him again and never received a paintball gun. i reported it to ebay, but never got any action out of it. Ebay sucks.

He shot me an email asking if I was still looking for one so he had to have seen my post on AR-15. He gave me a link to a pic on
http://www.accurateshooter.com/forum/index.php/topic,3736656.0.html but looks like he has only posted there three times, all in the same thread.

Cant find a members list on AR-15 so dont know any history on him.

I am hoping he checks his email and accepts shipping it COD to my FFL but not holding my breath.

Is that asking to much to ship it COD considering I have no way of knowing anything about the guy?

I don't buy things like that anymore. Too risky. Lost too much money.

I spend the extra money and get it from a reputable company.

The challenge is when your looking for a Colt lower to finish off a complete Colt gun its seams the only people that have them are individuals. :(

Personal check carries federal laws protecting you to a degree. Will he take one of them?

It would be different if he had a bunch of posts on a reputable board or something. Most like to keep their reputation if they are above a few hundred posts.

I got it for less than he was asking and it is a pre-ban that will complete my Colt Build, which makes that gun worth more than it is right now.

I sent a message to the AR admins trying to find out more but I agree with Greg, whitout a bunch of posts to tell me what I am dealing with I wont send the money.

You could tell him your concerns, suggest having his FFL hold the lower (escrow the lower) and not ship prior to payment, have your FFL contact his, you send the payment to his FFL, as long as the three of you are all in communication it would work fine.
If I was selling I would be more than willing to do that. If he's not then it's not meant to be.

KEA if I had known, I have a Colt SP1 lower I don't need. It has a crack in the buffer tube ring, and I am currently getting it looked at, but would have considered selling it.
